MONGOLIA

The following are the heritage sites, grouped into recommended gateway cities. This may help in planning on the logistics (travel and accommodation) of your journey.

MORON (MXV)

As the capital of the northern Khuvsgul province, Murun is a vital transit hub for adventurers heading to the pristine Khuvsgul Lake. This high-altitude town offers a glimpse into traditional Mongolian life, characterized by its vibrant local markets and central administrative spirit. Just outside the city lie the Uushigiin Uver Deer Stones, a remarkable archaeological site featuring ancient megaliths carved with stylized reindeer motifs dating back to the Bronze Age. Within the town, the Danudarjaa Monastery stands as a resilient symbol of Buddhist revival. Surrounded by rolling steppes and rugged mountains, Mörön remains the essential jumping-off point for exploring the nomadic cultures and nomadic wilderness of northern Mongolia.
