CHAD

The following are the heritage sites, grouped into recommended gateway cities. This may help in planning on the logistics (travel and accommodation) of your journey.

N’DJAMENA (NDJ)

N’Djamena, the resilient capital of Chad, sits at the historic confluence of the Chari and Logone rivers, directly facing Cameroon. Originally founded as Fort-Lamy, the city serves as a spirited gateway to the Sahel, blending French colonial history with vibrant African traditions. Travelers can explore the National Museum, home to the seven-million-year-old “Toumaï” fossil, or marvel at the elegant minarets of the Grand Mosque. The bustling Grand Marché offers an authentic sensory experience with its colorful textiles and spices. Despite its arid climate, the city’s riverside sunsets and the nearby ancient pottery village of Gaoui provide a soulful glimpse into Central Africa.
