MALTA

The following are the heritage sites, grouped into recommended gateway cities. This may help in planning on the logistics (travel and accommodation) of your journey.

MALTA (MLA)

Rising as a golden bastion from the Mediterranean, Valletta is the sun-drenched capital of Malta and a UNESCO-listed masterpiece of Baroque urban planning. Founded by the Knights of St. John following the Great Siege of 1565, this “city built by gentlemen for gentlemen” is home to 320 monuments within its compact walls. Visitors are mesmerized by the opulent interiors of St. John’s Co-Cathedral, housing Caravaggio’s masterpieces, and the panoramic vistas of the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barrakka Gardens. Between the vibrant wooden balconies of Republic Street and the historic Grand Master’s Palace, Valletta serves as a living open-air museum.
