Why Uruguay is South America’s Switzerland

Uruguay, known for its progressive social policies, strong education system, and historic democratic tradition, is often called the “Switzerland of South America.” Despite past military rule (1973–1985) following economic turmoil and guerrilla uprisings, the country restored democracy and liberalized its economy. Today, tourism thrives, bolstered by colonial towns and mild weather.
