At present (in 2022), there are 40 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India. Among these 40 sites, 32 are cultural, seven are natural, and one mixed. Khangchendzonga or Kanchenjunga National Park, located in Sikkim, is the mixed type. Now this brings us to – why is Khangchendzonga National Park a mixed UNESCO World Heritage Site? Firstly, what is a mixed UNESCO World Heritage Site?
