Melaka steps up campaign as UNESCO heritage site; Yi Whan-Woo; Korea Times

MELAKA, Malaysia – Being a UNESCO World Heritage site suggests how nicely Melaka has preserved its multicultural society, customs, traditions and townscape as a former colonial town in Malaysia. But this does not guarantee that the heritage of the Malay, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch and British in Melaka for more than the past 500 years will last forever. Fifty-four World Heritage sites are on UNESCO’s danger list while the two others – Oman’s Arabian Oryx Sanctuary and Germany’s Dresden Elbe Valley – have been delisted.
