2017 was an intense year in heritage affairs, with a slam from UNESCO, heads rolling at the Macau SAR Cultural Affairs Bureau, and a promise for the listing of the shipyards in Coloane.

Macau (MNA) – 2017 was an intense year in heritage affairs, with a slam from UNESCO, heads rolling at the Macau SAR Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), properties damaged by Typhoon Hato, and a promise for the listing of the shipyards in Coloane.

In July, the Macau SAR Government had to defend itself in regards to its heritage preservation policies when it attended the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) meeting in Krakow (Poland).

At the meeting, the WHC adopted a draft regarding the MSAR’s state of heritage affairs, in which it criticized the state of conservation of World Heritage properties in the city as one of 16 other cases presenting ‘serious problems.’
