The world famous toy train service in Darjeeling resumed its operations from Friday after it was suspended for six months.
The UNESCO world heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) had been suspended by the Northeast Frontier Railway following violence that broke out earlier this year during the Gorkhaland agitation.
On Friday morning, the first train chugged off from New Jalpaiguri station and climbed up the Queen of the Hills to reach the Darjeeling station with a couple of passengers.
The return train to Jalpaiguri was empty though. Among those who were on the first train today were a newlywed couple from Ahmedabad.
“We are loving it. We have come here for the first time,” said Nimesh Saxena, one of the passengers.
