23. Sighisoara

This city is for many locals the first that comes to mind when thinking “medieval town.” Its old center preserves lots of medieval buildings and the tourist programs it offers, including a highly popular summer festival, is centered on its medieval heritage. The citadel dates back from the 12th century and it has been listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
