A Cornwall heritage site has landed a multi-million pound boost to protect it for generations to come.

The ‘spectacular’ 19th century viaduct, located in The Luxulyan Valley near St Austell, is set to benefit from £3.6 million in National Lottery funding to restore and protect the natural environment.

Widely acknowledged for the importance of its industrial heritage, the valley is part of the UNESCO Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.

Now it is hoped the ‘jewel in the crown’, the Treffry Viaduct, will be brought back to its former glory to generate power through a new hydroelectric turbine – along with the restoration of two of the leats (artificial water courses).
